In the Making: Employer Spotlight, Part 1
“Seeing woodworking students with an ability to grow, change, and learn says to me: that’s somebody I can invest in.”
On Thursday, November 10, 2022, we met with chairmaker Peter Galbert live from his shop in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. He shared a business owner’s perspective on being a professional woodworker, why he loves greenwood chairmaking, what he looks for in employees, and the reality of launching a career as a craftsperson. Cabinet & Furniture Making graduate Kolin Schmidt CF ’21, who works in Peter’s shop, also contributed to the conversation.Â
As a full-time chairmaker, toolmaker, teacher, and writer,  teaches at craft schools around the country including North Bennet Street School—where each year he offers his Windsor Chair workshop to our Cabinet & Furniture Making students. Not surprisingly, Peter’s teaching style, knowledge, and his greenwood form of chairmaking attracts many ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ graduates who find a true calling—specifically the handful of alumni who currently work in Peter’s workshop.
